UTAH SENATE DISTRICT 21
Hi.
My name is Eric Vernon.
And Utah County is my home.
My family moved to Utah in 1970 when I was five years old. I grew up in Provo and graduated from BYU law school. I worked at a law firm in Salt Lake City for a few years before returning to school at Yale University for an MBA. Most of my career has been in the aerospace and defense industry working with larger corporations, but I also get involved with several Utah County start-up companies as an investor, advisor, and champion. I love being a corporate lawyer and helping businesses succeed. Great businesses change the world for good.
My wife Angie grew up in American Fork and we have raised our family in this area. We have four children who all attended American Fork High School and then BYU, with the youngest still working toward her degree at BYU. Angie works with the Utah Metropolitan Ballet as president of the board. UMB is a premier cultural arts provider in our Utah Valley community with a mission to inspire, enrich, unite, educate, and captivate our community through the arts. That’s the power of non-profit.
I still remember the first time my family went skiing at the newly-named Sundance Ski Resort. I was six years old and instantly, the mountains became my home. My love for skiing eventually led me to ski racing and the BYU Ski Team. I still like to escape to the mountains for few runs when I have time. Utah is unparalleled in its outdoor recreation opportunities. I am committed to helping local government maintain the beauty of our incredible state.
Thirty years ago, as a new law school graduate, I took an oath to uphold the constitution and to discharge my duties as an attorney with “honesty, fidelity, professionalism, and civility.” Those are values I still believe in today, both as an attorney and as a citizen.
You might ask, Why run for office now? Personally, this is a good time for me to get more involved in shaping the future of our state. Here’s my motivation:
-
preserving our Republican values
-
maintaining a favorable business environment
-
solving the current state constitutional questions
-
and also, increasing civility in public discourse
I look forward to connecting with each of you during this special election. Together we can make a difference. Thank you.
